Have you ever made the resolution to start swimming regularly but realise after just a couple of sessions that it's not as easy as it looks? Maybe you are struggling with your breathing, kick or even keeping your body on the surface of the water. You look at the other swimmers in the pool doing laps seemingly effortlessly and wonder why you aren't able to do the same.
Most adults are able to swim a form of freestyle, however there are often many fundamental errors entrenched in their stroke. This is not something to be embarrassed by, it generally comes about because beyond the basic swimming lessons you had as a child, you have probably never done any kind of training as a swimmer. There are many reasons why your freestyle stroke may be less than perfect, but the good news is almost every deficiency is fixable with some focused effort.
The best way to get started on your journey as a more efficient swimmer is to have some stroke analysis done. To the trained eye, it is generally quite simple to identify stroke flaws. This can be done by observation and also with video footage. The video is a helpful tool for the swimmer to see and understand what they are doing when they swim and how it can be improved upon.
Each stroke analysis workshop includes both in and out of water learning - including a breath work session (with a qualified breath work coach), the fundamentals of freestyle, an individual video session for each swimmer and helpful drills that pinpoint each stage of the freestyle stroke. These workshops are suited to recreational adult swimmers at a beginner/intermediate level. You will need to be able to swim a basic freestyle and be water confident but do not have to be able to swim a long distance. The sessions are not suited towards a high performance athlete.
Sessions are generally held at the Nambour Aquatic Centre (Sunshine Coast), although alternative locations can be arranged if required. Cost is $75 for two hours. You will be able to view your video during the session and it will also be sent to you for your ongoing reference. Each workshop has a maximum of eight swimmers and you are very welcome to arrange your own group to come together. Specific days and times can also be arranged.
